Our 3D Design Final is to create an environmental (instillation) sculpture to place on campus. We did not however get permission to actually place such sculptures on campus, so we instead had to settle (and have a little more freedom) to create a maquette of the setting and the sculpture. We could use whatever materials we wanted (mainly it was foam core, mat board, bristol board, and sketchbook paper) as long as it was white (we also used a little silver wire).
One thing I discovered from this project: I don't think artists really work well with each other. We all had strong ideas about what designs we wanted to do. In the end it was a lot of compromise, and I don't really like the compromise, I believe it's too confusing.
Our sculpture was to be centered around a tree by the entrance to the campus. My idea was a dragon (since our school mascot is the dragon I thought that we needed more on campus) and this other girl really really wanted these weird abstract swirly things. Whatever.
So, the only thing I did on this project was make the dragon, which took all the group time. I spent the most time on the head, figuring out how to make it work. In the end I made it out of bristol board. It is about my arm's length...so maybe about 2.5 feet give or take.
Group project by Chelsey, Jenna, Katie, Melissa and myself. This girl named Bridgette only showed up to one group meeting...and so the only thing she's contributed was leaves.
I'm so glad we didn't put wire around those big swirly root things. It would have been so distracting. I love the photo on the top left. Everything is so clustered. Damn, I hope we do well on our grade for this project. I think artists can work well together, depending on what they're going to make and whatnot, you know?
Yeah I was amused by that. I noticed how you had your tool box in front of you, like you were trying not to look at her. haha
I'm not sure if I like how the "roots" turned out. If they had been smaller and not all over the trunk it would have worked better, in my opinion. The dragon might have been a little thick, I think. I wonder what people are gonna say today?! I'm kind of excited to find out. Kind of.
To me the roots are extremely distracting...when I walked in there on Sunday I was just like 'what the heck?' Aw well, what can we do? Could be worse...could have been in a a group with that Jounah (I don know how to spell her name) or Roxy...they're perfectionists that like to use big words...TT__TT

Whoa that's pretty awesome. The combination of the abstract swirleys and the concrete dragon image work well together I think. Abstract design is cool, but having the concrete to ground it is a good contrast.
Nice. That's why I personally enjoy working with more than one artist a lot of the time, the results are full of contrasts that are interesting. Of course, that only works if the artists are willing to accept the differences and unfortunately some don't x_x;
